The image that appears on this stein was painted in 1910 to commemorate the
100-year anniversary of the Munich Oktoberfest. Decorated beer wagons were used
originally to transport 100-litre barrels to the Oktoberfest. The powerful teams
of four horses wore decorated harnesses and the coachmen were highly respected.
Today, the high consumption of beer (5,000,000 litres in 1995) at the
Oktoberfest makes beer wagon deliveries impractical. However, they do continue as
a demonstration of the old tradition. Same as Item #6783, but with pewter lid
and hops thumb lift.
