3-D KNIGHT STEIN

3-D KNIGHT STEIN
We certainly have a different idea what being a knight is today! We've seen Paul McCartney and Elton John knighted by the Queen of England. Sir Laurence Olivier and Sir Sidney Poitier are among the most famous actors to be knighted. But, knights have historically come from the military.

Historically, being knighted was what a king bestowed on a subject for their service to the kingdom. Often, knights were chosen because of some gallant feat they accomplished in battle or by serving as protector of the king himself. But, it was also bestowed on subjects who were family or dear friends of the royalty and it grew from there to what is is now.

Knighting is often an honorary title. But in the case of Sidney Poitier, it is an official title bestowed on him because of his citizenship of the Bahamas. Recognized as part of the British Empire, Sir Sidney Poitier is a subject of the Queen and as such was officially given title as the Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire, an official knighthood.

This wonderful stein commemorates knights everywhere. This stoneware, raised-relief stein depicts a full-bodied knight standing guard in front of a castle tower. It is in three-dimensional panoramic design and the side decorations feature the castle gates with ivy and archways. The knight's shield is adorned with lion and weaponry including lance and mace are at the knight's side. Castle tower pewter lid with pewter helmet thumblift. Entirely hand painted and made in Germany. Limited edition of 5,000 pieces.
